So I am a very curious person. I love to read, it’s one of my favorite things to do, but the bookishness often gets in the way of me finding interesting books. I often like to go online and look up books on my own, but the books I find online tend to be either not so great or not so interesting. So, I figured I should try out books on my own.
I know that I love books. I’m an obsessive reader. I think that’s part of what got me hooked on reading, but the books I find that are good are often not books that I’d want to read. It’s called “passion,” and it’s what keeps many people reading. I’m talking about the time we spend in reading when we’re not thinking about the book in any particular way. We’re reading about a character, or an idea, or a person.
Now you are probably thinking: “I know that some people read to learn, but I never did that. If I had to do a homework assignment, then I would have to read a book that I had to learn something from. Or I would have to read something more than once to learn something. That is not how I read.” But you have to have the time. There is no time to read a book more than once. You have to read it once and love it.
Reading to learn goes against the grain. I’ve read a lot of books over the years. Some I even read over and over again. But reading just once to learn is a different experience. It’s a different way of looking at the same words. It’s not the same. It’s different.
Not only so, but I have to learn a new language. A new language that I have never studied before. A different way of looking at the same words. Its different.
